EuroMillions Superdraw

EuroMillions Superdraw

Without a doubt, many gamblers have heard of a famous lottery called EuroMillions. In fact, this game has become so popular that it is now possible to play EuroMillions in many European countries, from Luxembourg to the United Kingdom. Launched as long ago as 2004, the transnational lottery has become a major brand and changed thousands of lives for the better. EuroMillions is definitely a big deal now, but it is not the topic of our discussion today.

So, what was the point of this introduction then? Well, the reason we have just mentioned EuroMillions is that we are going to talk about something closely related to it. That is, we would like to discuss EuroMillions Superdraw here. All in all, while “classic” EuroMillions is worth talking about, its Superdraw part is often undeservedly outshined. Thus, we would have a closer look at this game and tell you all you need to know to participate in it!

What is it, and how to participate?

Now, let us start with the basics. What is EuroMillions Superdraw exactly? To put things plain, these drawings are special events that take place throughout the year. Overall, Superdraws are quite similar to classic EuroMillions lotteries: the absolutely same rules and regulations apply, just like in regular draws. Nevertheless, there are a few crucial differences between common lotteries and Superdraws that make the latter worth your attention.

First and foremost, EuroMillions Superdraws always offer a guaranteed nine-figure jackpot. In other words, if you happen to win the main prize, you would gain €100,000,000 at a minimum! Exciting, isn’t it? Moreover, if no one wins, a Superdraw jackpot will roll over to the next drawing. It continues to grow until the top prize is won or until it reaches the jackpot cap of €200 million. That essentially means that someone will likely win this astounding sum sooner or later. Obviously, this someone could be you! However, once the jackpot reaches this €200 million mark, the top prize can remain like that only for four consecutive draws. If it is not won yet, the prize money is to be divided between the winners of the next highest prize tier. In the end, you still have a chance to win big even without the jackpot!

In addition, EuroMillions Superdraws are rather rare. While regular drawings take place twice a week (every Tuesday and Friday in Paris), EuroMillions Superdraws are indeed special. On average, they are only held two or three times a year! Naturally, a Superdraws have managed to become an exciting and long-awaited event, so you certainly would not want to miss it!

Now that you have a general understanding of this special lottery, it would be logical to say a few things about the rules, wouldn’t it? So, as stated above, Superdraws operate under the same rules as regular EuroMillions draws. In case you are not familiar with the practice, here is how it goes:

  1. How to Play EuroMillions Superdraw

To play EuroMillions (and, consequently, EuroMillions Superdraw), you have to choose five main numbers between 1 and 50 with two Lucky Stars from 1 and 12 to your payslip. Your playslip is also divided into multiple ‘boards’ or ‘lines,’ enabling you to submit more than one entry at the same time.

  2. How Jackpot is calculated

EuroMillions offers 13 different prize tiers, and the estimated jackpot is published prior to the draw. The exact value of prizes, though, are calculated according to how many tickets are sold in a particular draw and how many winning tickets there are in any given prize tier.

  3. How to Win Jackpot

From there on, your prize depends on how many numbers you have guessed. The easiest way to win is to guess two main numbers only: matching the stars without any main numbers will not be enough to win anything. In this case, you will not win much, but it will be enough to earn a modest profit. To win the jackpot, it is necessary to match all the numbers and stars. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 139,838,160.

Overall, the approximate odds of winning anything in EuroMillions are about 1 in 13. Even though it does not seem like much at first glance, it is still rather impressive for a lottery. It is a game of chance, and there is no reason at all why you could not be the next big winner!

The winners of EuroMillions Superdraw

Speaking about big winners, has anyone actually managed to receive the main prize? Evidently, the answer is “yes” – this lottery would not be so popular unless it was possible to become a millionaire! As of now, there were four cases of people winning as much as €190,000,000! These happened in 2012, 2014, 2017, and even in 2019. Two of these jackpots were won via regular EuroMillions lottery, whereas Superdraw winners claimed the other two (including the recent one in 2019). Curiously, the first astonishing jackpot of over €115.4 million was won by Irish lady, Dolores McNamara, back in July 2005.

Another interesting situation happened in 2006. At the time, the rules of the game stated that after the twelfth draw without a winner, the jackpot amount would be rolled down and shared between the winners in the next prize tier. This was exactly what transpired on 17 November 2006, after over €183 million had accumulated in the jackpot. As a result, the whole sum was shared between the winners of the second rank – there were 20 winners of €9.6 million each.

Sounds attractive, doesn’t it? Nevertheless, we cannot stress enough how important it is to pay attention to the rules and regulations of the game and the laws of your country. For example, you must be aged 18 or over to play EuroMillions Superdraw (players from the UK must be aged 16+, though). Of course, this is the main restriction, but there could be more. Kindly familiarize yourself with the whole list of rules before deciding to participate.
